CLO Introduction
Claudia Ochoa designs with one purpose in mind: To make the woman feel confident and look good. Seems straightforward for lingerie, no? “Itʼs not often the case,” the Colombian-born, NYC-based designer said. Growing up in the midst of design and garment production, it wasnʼt long before Ochoa realized her true calling – fashion design. She left Colombia for New York City determined to take over the industry one pair of lace panties at a time. Fans of Cloʼs adjustable bikinis agree that she did. Citing a major void in the market for smart, stylish and sexy lingerie that was also enticing to the wearer, Ochoa decided to toss her proverbial hat – or lace – into the ring. Tempering her Colombian sensuality with New York sophistication, she launched Clo, a collection of lace intimates, including bras and bralets, bikinis, boyshorts, camisoles and chemises. Designed in New York City, Ochoa produces the lovelies from a family factory in Colombia (doesnʼt knowing your lingerie came from sun-drenched South America make it all that more appealing?), using French, Italian and Colombian lace and fabrics in a variety of colors and styles. The result? Beautifully crafted pieces that are as comfortable as they are lovely. Goal achieved.
SUASION SECRETS INTERVIEW WITH CLAUDIA OCHOA!
[S.S.] If you had to pick only one must-have piece from your Collection for women to wear on a special night, which style, color would it be and why?
[Claudia Ochoa] My personal favorite is the Fortuna demi camisole because it works with everything. You can dress it up (under a blazer or a sexy dress) or down (peeking out from a button up shirt or deep V sweater). I love the nude color because it blends in and looks, well, nude. I rarely match the panties, which some of my lingerie aficionado friends think is scandalous.
[S.S.] What inspires you when you design a Collection?
[Claudia Ochoa] I always look at nature for design and color. Whether it's plants, flowers, birds or planets, no one does it better than nature.
[S.S.] What would you say to women out there who don't feel comfortable wearing lingerie?
[Claudia Ochoa] I think you should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Lingerie is like any pair of jeans or T-shirt - you need to love it. I can understand that the hyper sexy, male oriented lingerie can be more daunting. Start by upgrading to things that suit your style, NOT what you think suits your partner’s style.
[S.S.]What is your definition of sexy?
[Claudia Ochoa] There is nothing sexier than confidence in who you are and being yourself.
[S.S.]Could you share with us your future projects for Clo Intimo?
[Claudia Ochoa] I'm developing each group further with more silhouettes, underwire in cup sizes, and looking to integrate some new fabrics. The future may see Clo moving into some cottons, microfibers and silks, and maybe even experiment with some prints. . . you’ll just have to see!
